Confluence 7 is finally released, and at first glance it does not seem introduce a lot of changes from the previous version.
We ought not the get tricked though.
First of all, Atlassian have heavily invested in renewing and improving the code base, just like they did on the Jira platform. This will mean improved performance and a platform which more easily can be extended with new features.
Secondly, a couple of new functions has been added and here the “Plan your upgrade” is worth a mention. This tool analyses your instance and makes a custom-tailored upgrade plan for your specific instance. As a result, it will now require less time to complete an upgrade.
If you are using Confluence 6,5 or a newer version, you can already use this function and upgrade to Confluence 7.X, all you have to do is to upgrade the “Troubleshooting and Support tools”-app to the latest version available.
The third thing worth mentioning is the automatic clean-up of Synchrony data, which earlier played a crucial part in creating redundant data in the database. This means that data that is no longer relevant automatically will be deleted. Synchrony is the main engine behind Collaborative editing in Confluence, and every time someone added a letter or a sign onto a Confluence page, Synchrony had already saved a record of it.
We are certain, that we can expect tremendous things from Confluence 7 in the future.
