"I've always been good at languages, fluent in four, and it sparked my curiosity to go on a new "language journey" in programming"

After 1 year in IT, Tatiana shares her experience of transitioning from the fashion industry and daring to explore new career paths.

Tatiana grew up in the Canary Islands of Spain in a multicultural home, with a Norwegian mother and a Spanish-Argentine father. Her upbringing and the support of her parents in many ways paved the way for her journey into the fashion industry. A journey that took her from Spain to Norway and later to Copenhagen to study Design Technologist and work in the fashion industry.

Finding the right shelf

As part of a privileged generation where opportunities abound, Tatiana felt there was an expectation to take advantage of this privilege.

“I was raised with the mindset that you should do what you love! If you have the opportunity, take it!”

For Tatiana, the choice to pursue an education in design was a result of the freedom to turn her passion for fashion into a career path, without fully knowing what working in the industry entailed. During her time in the creative professions, Tatiana experienced a deep connection with her work, but also challenging periods of doubt.

A job in the IT industry was not in the cards for Tatiana, and she describes her path as a combination of coincidences. The coronavirus pandemic was a time of professional uncertainty and room for self-reflection, resulting in the decision to look in a different direction. It was ultimately her interest in languages that led her to programming.

“I’ve always been good at languages, fluent in four, and it sparked my curiosity to go on a new “language journey” in programming”

Tatiana’s journey into the IT world started with a single programming course to test the waters before committing to a 5-year program at TEC. To her surprise, she found many creative aspects of programming that got her blood pumping.

“Discovering the many different ways to solve problems that all lead to the same result has really opened my eyes to the creative potential of programming”

The strength of collegial ties

For Tatiana, collegial support has been crucial to her success in her career change. Her first meeting with aety was during a career day organized by her educational institution, where the chemistry was there from the first meeting . Soon after, she started as a programmer trainee, which marked the start of a new and exciting time. Becoming part of a work environment where collegial bonds are forged over more than a passion for fashion has been liberating. The close-knit family atmosphere and dynamic energy has made her transition into the IT industry positive and she feels supported in her development.

Tatiana has just started her second school course and is excited to get back to aety and put her knowledge into practice.
