Have you decided that your company should migrate your Jira Service management, Jira Software, or Confluence to the Atlassian cloud? – then you have come to the right place.
If not, you should read our post on why the cloud is a great option.
Migrating to the Atlassian cloud is a team sport between Atlassian, Aety, and most importantly, your business. At Aety, we help you safely through all the steps on your journey to the Atlassian cloud.
A successful migration process typically consists of 3 overall steps; assessment of the company, the migration itself, and the subsequent support and maintenance of the platform (hyper care). We know that migrating from on-premise to the cloud, for many, is an unmanageable decision to make, so we guide you through the process.
Step 1: Assess your company’s Atlassian installation
The first step in the journey is to assess your company’s Atlassian installation. Together, we will review your current installation focusing on complexity, use of apps, optimization points, and your general use of Atlassian’s products. With these inputs, we can assess the extent of migration to the Atlassian cloud and compare the cost of staying on your current platform with the cost of the Atlassian cloud.
The assessment will also include an overall draft of the timeline and a migration budget.
There can be different wishes on how quickly a migration should be completed. Based on experience, we have a few general examples of the average time frame:
- Smaller companies take approx. Two months.
- Medium-sized companies take approx. 3 months.
- Large companies take approx. 4 months.
The above example is calculated in calendar time and should not be seen as a fixed allocation by a consultant. Together, we lay out a tailored plan for migrating to the Atlassian cloud.
Step 2: The migration
Once the first step has been completed, it is time for the migration itself. This is where all data, applications, and integrations will be moved from a server or a data center to Atlassian’s cloud environment. It is important to note that a migration to the Atlassian cloud is not a 1: 1 transfer. It is an opportunity to optimize the platform and remove areas that previously created problems or did not work for your business. After a successful migration, we validate data in the cloud environment to use the new platform.
Step 3: Subsequent support and maintenance of Atlassian cloud
As a customer of Aety, we help your team with any post-migration issues and ongoing questions about using the Atlassian cloud. We offer support until all possible migration issues are resolved. If you want to continue getting support for your Atlassian cloud platform, Aety can provide you with several different support models.
